Visakha Bucha Day 2009

Posted by Jaxon on May 8th, 2009

Today’s Visakha Bucha Day in Thailand. Visakha Bucha falls on the full moon of the sixth lunar month and it commemorates the dates of Lord Buddha’s Birth, Enlightenment and Mahaparinibbhana.

In Chiang Mai, devotees gathered and made their way up Doi Suthep on foot under the moon light last night. And this morning, many Thais would have made merit by offering food to the monks.

I hope that all Thais will receive good luck and the protests and political unrests will soon become a thing of the past.

Songkran 2009 Chiang Mai

Posted by Jaxon on May 2nd, 2009

Yeah, it’s been a while since my last post. Some thing (and then some more things) cropped up. Anyway, here are some videos of Songkran concert parties in Chiang Mai that were really hot, and really wet!

First, Discovery’s concert:

Lines and lines of girls on stage, spraying and blasting water on the crowd non-stop! This was on Huaykaew Road Chiang Mai. You know, I really hate getting wet. But it gets so hot that it’s better to be wet!

Second video of Discovery’s concert:

Discovery is a club on 12 Huaykaew.

A different concert, also on Huaykaew Rd

This concert (there were at least 3) was in front of the shopping mall Kad Suan Kaew.

Chiangmai Tourism Shifting to Mice

Posted by Jaxon on June 17th, 2008

From Bangkokpost.com:

CHIANG MAI : Local tourism businesses are committed to repositioning Chiang Mai as a destination for the meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition (Mice) business in place of leisure travel in an effort to address a tourism slowdown in the province.

The northern province has been seen as a leisure tourism destination for 30 years but few new tourism products have been developed to attract return visitors, according to Kanok Suwansutr, president of the Northern Chapter of the Thai Hotels Association.

”The private sector hopes that the repositioning of Chiang Mai will help attract Mice visitors to revisit throughout the entire year, not just for [the October-February high] season at present,” said Mr Kanok.
