Outside of Chiang Mai, the beautiful countryside has more to offer. Here’re some recommended tours you can do in a day.
Doi Inthanon National Park encompasses the highest peak in Thailand, Doi Inthanon, as well as several lesser summits. There are numerous dramatic waterfalls, flora, bird species and hill-tribe villages. On this tour you can cool off on the mountains while taking in the landscape below of the National Park. Temperatures on the peak here can hit as low as -8 degrees celsius. In the cold/dry season night time frosts are common.
On the way up, visit the twin pagodas Phra Mahathat Napha Methanidon and Phra Mahathat Naphaphon Phumisiri for the most spectacular views in the park. These were built to commemorate the fifth cycle birthdays of the Thai king and queen. Then on to a Meo hill tribe village, the humongous Vachiritharn Falls and the twin cascades Siriphum Waterfalls. The flower garden at the Royal Project Research Station is usually part of the trip too.
Prices for this day tour start from about 1000baht.
